This model started as an experiment in integrating boxpleat structures into models that only use irrational 22.5 degree references. I started with a 22.5 degree reference very close to 3/8ths and the constructed pleats on the back of the insect using typical boxpleat techniques. Unfortunately, this made the model very cursed to fold, and creases weren’t quite aligning. Luckily, I got some help and shifted the model to a 32 grid, making it a hybrid boxpleat/22.5 degree model.

It wasn’t the most enjoyable model to fold but the result exceeded my expectations.
